Our story

Steveston Winemakers has been nestled in the quaint fishing village of Steveston since January 4, 2000. We have an experienced team that knows how to help customers choose and customize wines to suit their palates. A world of wines awaits you. Grapes for the wine kits are sourced by top commercial producers from vineyards around the world. Wines made here win awards. When you visit the shop, you’ll immediately notice a warm, friendly atmosphere where cleanliness is a top priority. The experience of becoming a vintner here is always fun and affordable.

We live and work in a very special community and are committed to supporting our community’s charitable fundraising events.

Our products

Explore the world of wine in your own way by using the finest ingredients sourced from the world’s best vineyards. Many of our wines come with oak chips or cubes which simulate the aromas and flavours of barrel-aging. Check out our FAQ page to learn more about aging your wine once it’s bottled.

Platinum Wine Series

Take your craft to the highest level and you’re sure to impress any wine connoisseur. You’ll make premium quality wines by selecting from our Platinum Series. Red wines will ferment on wet or dry grape skins which adds deep hues, enhances the bouquet and promotes chewy tannins for a lingering finish. You can expect to wait 8 weeks from the time you start fermentation to when you return to bottle.

Gold Wine Series

Make superior quality, age-worthy wines of distinction by choosing from this 8-week series. Your wines will be both complex and sophisticated.

Silver Wine Series

Enjoy our Silver Series which highlights the unique tastes of the most acclaimed wine styles of the old and new worlds. Most red wines ferment on dried grape skins, adding colour, rich bouquets and tannins that will smooth out with age. These wines take 6 weeks to ferment before being bottle ready.

Bronze Wine Series

Pick easy-drinking table wines from our Bronze Series. You’ll find that these pair perfectly with every meal. Fermentation time is only 4 weeks so you can enjoy your craft wine quickly and more often.

Beer

If you have a taste for micro-brewed beers, our craft beer kits are designed exclusively for you. Skilled brew masters use a 3-vessel craft brew house to transform the best barley, malt and hops into small batches of fresh wort. It’s packaged immediately, capturing all its delicate aromas and flavours. There are no sugars, concentrate or extract, just pure, fresh, unfermented beer! You can make your favourite style of all-grain craft beer at home in just a few weeks and enjoy a truly great beer with fresh and pure flavours and aromas.

Your winemaking team

Paul
Paul

Paul has been with Steveston Winemakers since 2001. He began his career as a professional photographer while living on Canada’s east coast. Therefore, just as you’d expect from an east-coaster, his friendly nature makes you feel so welcome that you already feel like family when you first walk through the door. His wealth of knowledge about wines will guide your decision about which ones to make. When you start the fermentation process for your first kit, you become a vintner. Paul will call you when it’s ready to bottle and help you turn it into the finished product to take home.

Bill
Bill

Bill and Heather have been customers of Steveston Winemakers since moving here in 2001. When the former owners decided to retire, they bought the business so they could continue to make the outstanding wines they’d become accustomed to. Bill began his career as a computer programmer in the financial industry, eventually becoming Chief Technology Officer and later doing IT consulting projects in healthcare. Volunteering has been an important part of his life, having spent 13 years with Scouts Canada and 18 with the RCMP Block Watch program. Bill is process oriented, so he’s making sure everything behind the scenes is working smoothly. Of Dutch heritage, his last name means ‘merchant’ so the wine shop is a great fit for becoming more involved in the community.

Heather
Heather

Always drawn to Steveston Heather was thrilled when she and Bill could call it home in 2001. She began her career in accounting and transitioned to IT projects, auditing, business risk consulting, business continuity, privacy, compliance and risk management, all of which can be used in the business. Volunteering has been a big part of her life, including United Way, parent advisory council, strata council, CPA chapter board, Girl Guides, occupational health and safety and the RCMP Block Watch program. Heather is delighted to be even more involved in the community since becoming a shop owner.
